Current position: Associate Professor at Copenhagen University

Main field of research: animal bioacoustics and behavioural biology, vocal expression and contagion of emotions in ungulates

Her primary research interests are animal behaviour, welfare, emotions, communication and cognition. Throughout her career, she has been working on various animal behaviour topics (bioacoustics, cognitive bias, vocal, behavioural and physiological indicators of emotions, mood, personality, problem solving, long-term memory, social learning, social interactions) and with various species (goats, domestic and Przewalski’s horses, pigs, wild boars, cattle, bison, fallow deer and skylarks), allowing her to acquire a broad range of skills related to the analysis of animal behaviour and physiology, and more particularly, vocalisations. As part of her latest project on the evolution of vocal expression of emotions in ungulates, Elodie investigated how pigs encode information about positive and negative emotions in their grunts, and if conspecifics can perceive this information.

PhD at the University of Paris North and South on acoustic communication in skylarks (in 2008)

Positions after PhD: postdoc fellow for 4 years at Queen Mary University of London, postdoc fellow and senior scientist for 6 years at ETH Zürich
