In WP 3, the prototype tool developed in WP 2 will be validated and improved in order to obtain a final version of the recognition tool, which would be reliable and practicable under the real conditions of the pig industry. This will be achieved through 1) validation of the recognition tool by all the collaborators in standardised condition at research stations and in real on-farm conditions and at slaughter; these situations will be chosen in order to cover the range of valence and arousal levels (positive/negative; low/medium/high); 2) measurement of the accuracy of the tool, based on the results of the testing; 3) improvement of the tool according to the results of the tests and the identified need. The identification of the need for improvement will be achieved by all participants during the tests. The planning and coordination of the experiments (standardised and real conditions), and the calculation of the accuracy of the tool from the results will be achieved by PostDoc 3 hosted by P1. The final tool will be transferred to the pig industry through a series of workshops/meetings (see WP 4).
